Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Brussels on Sunday (19 December) to protest against Belgium's Covid pass system and mandatory vaccination for health workers.

There was a wide discrepancy between the numbers of attendees claimed to be at the march. Police estimated about 3,500 participants, while the organisers claimed about 50,000.

At at previous rallies, there were clashes with the police, who used tear gas and water cannons in response, but the rally was significantly less violent than previous demonstrations.

This time, organisers themselves appointed people responsible for maintaining order, and police checked people at the Northern Railway Station, to prevent dangerous items being taken to the rally.
