Emotional footage from the Ukrainian border with Romania shows a teenage girl bidding her father a tearful farewell through the fence at the crossing between the two countries after she fled the Russian invasion.

The heartbreaking footage captured by 19-year-old Diana Totok on February 24 shows the two kiss and hold hands through gaps in the barrier before exchanging some final words.

Totok fled the southern Ukrainian town of Mykolayiv with her mother, sister and four of her closest friends.

She, like hundreds of thousands of other refugees, remains in Romania while her father returned to the conflict in accordance with Ukrainian laws banning all men aged 18-60 from leaving the country.

I had to say goodbye to my dad on February 24. He took us to the border with Romania because of the Russian invasion. Because of the war. Men cannot leave the country because all men (18-60years) are liable for military service.
