Amid the chaos of war and family dislocation, there were moments of normal life for two Ukrainian children playing football with volunteers of an NGO in Romania on 5 March.

The group was having a kick-about in a small field inside a reception centre for refugees in Radauti, near the Siret border crossing.

The two fled the war with their mothers, travelling first by car, accompanied by another group of Ukrainians, before reaching the Romanian border on foot.

The pair, who are cousins, both left the Ukrainian town of Kam'janec'-Podil's'kyj in the Cernivci Oblast.

They were welcomed by the Italian association 'Fondazione Progetto Arca' in a dormitory made available by the local prefecture.

From what their mothers have told them, they still don't know where they will end up but there is a possibility that they will head to Germany.
