Woman takes group of disabled people snorkeling to boost inclusivity in tourism sector
A woman took a group of disabled people snorkelling in southern Thailand to highlight the push for inclusivity in Thailand's tourism sector.
Than Nitcharee went diving with the five people off the coast of Trang province on April 3. With the help of a tour guide, they swam up to 15 metres underwater and also explored the Emerald Cave in Koh Waen.
The campaigner said: 'This is my first time diving in the Trang Sea. It was a beautiful environment and we saw an abundance of marine life underwater.
'Today, we came with some friends who wanted to dive. Each of them has a disability but they wanted to experience diving for themselves.'
Than also invited the public to travel to Trang, where tour operators and the Tourism Authority of Thailand have reportedly been arranging facilities in the Pak Meng Pier to make tourist sites safer and more accessible to people with disabilities.
Araya Nantayu, a visually impaired woman who joined the dive, said: 'It was a new experience and I was impressed. The important thing is there was a guide who was friendly and was always there to help. I didn't feel scared at all.
'I would like to tell all persons with disabilities that the world is always open to us if we don't close off our hearts.'
The group finished their diving trip by eating fresh seafood at a nearby restaurant.
