A new statue celebrating the Windrush generation has been unveiled In London.

The monument, at Waterloo Station, pays tribute to the thousands of people who arrived in the UK from Caribbean countries between 1948 and 1971.

It depicts a man, woman and child standing on top of suitcases and was revealed to mark Windrush Day on June 22.

"You called and we came" poem by professor Laura Serrant is featured next to sculpture. The poem pays tribute to African Caribbean nurses who arrived in Britain at the time of the NHS formation. Designed by renowned Jamaican artist Basil Watson, the inspiring and expressive monument represents the courage of thousands of men and women of the Windrush generation who came from Caribbean countries to post-war Britain between 1948 and 1971 to contribute to the life of society.
