Overseas Brazilians hit the polls today in the the South American country's highly polarised general election at a west London venue (October 2).

Supporters of the two main candidates, incumbant president, Jair Bolsonaro, and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, dressed in the red colour of the Workers' Party or in Brazilian football shirts and waved flags and banners as they bantered with the opposition, and passing motorists honked horns.

In recent polls, the left-wing candidate, 76-year-old former president Lula is expected to take the lead over far-right Bolsanaro, and would need to achieve 50% of the vote in order to win the election. If not, a runoff election will follow on the 30th October.
