‘I used SHOWER CURTAINS to create budget Santa’s grotto – my kids think I’m crazy'
A Christmas-loving mum has revealed her thrifty way of creating a festive display in her home on a budget – using shower curtains.
Ramona Ristaino, 54, from New Jersey, US, decided to get creative and think outside the box this year when it came to decorating her home for the season.
Rather than splash out on pricey displays, she had an idea to cut costs while still having a dramatic Christmas scene – by using festive shower curtains.
Ramona hung up the sheets to cover her windows as makeshift curtains and drapes, each featuring the huge face of Father Christmas.
Meanwhile, to create a cosy scene, she added a drape over another window of a fireplace complete with a crackling fire and stockings ready for the big day.
Elsewhere, Ramona has various figurines of Santa, Mrs Claus, fairies, and various other festive ornaments, as well as multiple trees.
“I've always admired themed bathrooms in catalogues and this year while admiring them, I thought – why couldn't I hang them on my windows?” Ramona, an insurance underwriter, told NeedToKnow.online.
“There are so many options choices and patterns when it comes to shower curtains. Keeping with my Santa theme, I just ordered Santas looking in opposite directions.
“I purchased them on Amazon for $19 each – much cheaper than actual curtains or drapes.
“My kids call me crazy but I just chuckle and say ‘when I’m dead you won’t be fighting over my crystal or china – you’ll be arguing over my Santas!’
She shared pictures of her makeshift grotto on Facebook, where friends loved her ingenuity.
One person said: “Absolutely outstanding it looks like Santa's grotto.”
“That is so awesome. I would love to have the curtains.I collect Santas. Great job,” another user commented.
Someone else added: “Very clever, shower curtain windows!”
“Wow. You even have Christmas drapes. Lovely,” said another fan.
“Looks fantastic,” someone else agreed.
