A mum-of-one has gone viral after hosting a glamorous baby shower for less than £400.

Ellie Midgley was eager to have a luxurious event for her 25 guests but without a hefty price tag attached.

And so, the 25-year-old from Yorkshire decided to get creative by turning to TikTok and Instagram for inspiration, and is now sharing her secrets with others.

Her viral video has racked up 378,000 views and 25,000 likes so far.

“I used friends and local businesses and had the event on a Sunday because it was free,” the content creator, mum to toddler daughter Ava, told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“I chose a venue that was already pretty so there wasn’t much else we needed to decorate, we made [whatever decorations were needed] ourselves.

“Get help from your best friends.

“They’ll enjoy the planning process, and while you’re heavily pregnant it can really help to take the stress away from what is already a really busy time in your life.

“My best friend is a balloon artist so I saved a massive amount on this, my other best friend runs a sweet[s] business.”

By avoiding having the event on a Saturday, which is often very popular for this type of gathering, the mum saved £150.

She also created free budget-friendly games for entertainment including a baby-themed game to guess the baby’s name – with her partner, Jake, even taking part virtually in a pre-recorded video.

Ellie also had a homemade, low cost guest book for guests to sign and commemorate the occasion.

Although the mum did splash a bit of cash on a live singer, she says the bulk of the £400 was used to feed the guests.

She said: “It [the party] was really fun.

“I had 25 guests; I knew I just wanted my close family and friends and those who would be in my baby’s life.

“I spent most of the money on food, [and] had a guest book and polaroid camera.

“It was gorgeous to read these messages back eat the end of day and even since Ava has arrived.

“I found it [the planning] quite easy.

“I love planning events. I’m now planning my daughter’s first birthday.”
