An emergency medicine doctor protesting in solidarity with striking ambulance workers on Wednesday (December 21) has warned that doctors in the UK will go on strike "at some point soon".

Dr Andrew Meyerson, who works at an A&E department in east London, said in an interview that "us doctors, we're going to go on strike at some point soon - I hope not".

The doctor, who is originally from the USA and came to the UK to work in the NHS, also said "too many patients are dying on their way into hospital ... at home ... in the backs of ambulances or in our A&E waiting rooms because we can't treat them soon enough, because this government has not had a plan to fix this problem for the better part of a decade".

He added, "Because of the failures of the government over the last 10 years to have any plan for the NHS ... any patients that come to harm are on them" and that "patients right now in the United Kingdom are not getting the care that they deserve because of political failures".
