Footage shows a massive Atlas moth clinging onto a tourist's hand in Sa Kaeo province, Thailand on 9 December.

The bug held tight on Sasipan Sonchaem's palm despite her efforts to shake it off.

She said: 'At first I thought I was lucky that something so beautiful landed on my hands. But after a while, it wouldn't let go. I got scared.'

Named after a Greek Titan, Atlas moths are one of the largest insects on Earth, capable of growing a wingspan of up to 27 centimetres.

Despite its massive size, it is harmless to humans and does not feed as an adult, doing most of its eating as a caterpillar.

When threatened, it drops to the ground and slowly unfolds its wings, the tips of which resemble a venomous cobra's head.
