A cold snap in Texas has left at least six people dead and 340,000 without power while thousands of flights were cancelled as runways turned into skating rinks.

The wintry conditions have left much of the state dealing with the fallout of the unusually low temperatures.

Thousands have been left without power and at least 2,300 flights were grounded causing travel chaos.

But some Texans saw the fun side with one person ice skating down the street in Lake Dallas.

Footage also shows the damage to one property in Flower Mound after a driver crashed into their backyard.

Of the thousands of flights cancelled, at least 550 were at Dallas Fort Worth Airport, which is seen with a runway covered in snow and airport staff treating one plane for ice.

The bad weather has resulted in at least six people dying and 340,000 without power and the National Weather Service has predicted that the cold snap will last until Thursday.

The footage was captured on February 1.
