Anti-ICE protestors use annual sled art event to hit out at Trump
Anti-ICE protestors used an annual sledding event to hit out at enforcers - with anti-Trump costumes and art.
The Art Sled Rally took place in Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis - the city where Renee Good was killed by an ICE agent, prompting continues tensions and protests.
Participants showcased politically charged sleds and costumes including a bottle of De-Icer and a giant bowling-ball sled rolled at people dressed as bowling pins labelled Trump, Jong Un, Putin, Jinping, and Khamenei, on Saturday (17).
"It's a bunch of these sleds that are these pieces of art that mean something to the community, to the creator, and to the artist," said Melody, a local resident who documented the event."
The rally featured an hour or two of artistic sleds racing down the hill.
One sled was shaped like a bottle reading "DE-ICER: ICE OUT OF MN," while another took the form of a coffee cup labeled "I'll take my horchata warm cuz f--k ICE." "
A chicken-shaped sled wearing a whistle bore the message "ICE OUT MSP." "
"There were these people who were dressed up as bowling pins with names of different political figures on them," Melody said. "
"And then there was a giant bowling ball at the top that came down and knocked them all over."
For Melody, the event represents something deeper about Minneapolis.
"Minneapolis often shows up in a very specific way in the news, and we're so much more than that," she said. "
"I felt like this was just a really great little sneak peek into what life is actually like here and how wonderful people here actually are."
