'What an idiot!' American tourist unlawfully climbs Mayan ruin on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and gets beaten up by locals
An American man illegally walks up the massive step pyramid in Mexico known as El Castillo or Temple of Kukulcan, Chichén Itzá, on January 28.
The trespasser was promptly stopped by two authorities who climb the stairs after the man.
"Chichen Itza was a large pre-Columbian city built by the Maya people of the Terminal Classic period. No one is allowed to walk up the pyramid, however, this man decided he would casually climb the steps for a selfie," said Dylan, the filmer.
“I felt extremely shocked and thought what an idiot because I know how to special this temple is to the Mowami people the locals started shouting idiot, idiot, very disrespect man. My girlfriend was quite distressed watching the violence break out another man punched him in the face after the first man slapped him and then the guy with the stick hit him over the head," said the filmer.
