The gunman, identified as Anthony Dwayne McRae, had no known ties to the university but opened fire on two parts of the campus in East Lansing.

Students and faculty members were forced to shelter in place while law enforcement officials responded to the scene.

According to the MSU police department, McRae was later found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found with a note in his pocket that indicated a threat to two Ewing Public Schools in New Jersey, according to the local police department.
