A vacuum cleaner exploded when being charged in a room in northern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Taiyuan in Shanxi province on February 12, shows flames suddenly bursting out and lighting a room with an explosive sound.

A couple ran into the room to check immediately and then a man named Guo took the burning vacuum cleaner out of their flat.

According to Guo, he bought the vacuum cleaner one and a half years ago. It suddenly exploded after it had been charged for more than half an hour.

Fortunately, Guo quickly took the vacuum cleaner to the corridor to extinguish the fire.

The fire ignited a silk duvet, a mattress and a down jacket hanging beside their bed. The wall was also left charred.

The total loss was estimated to be around 6,000 yuan ($930). Luckily, no one was injured.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
