A dog owner whose famous pooches earn her a living from their digital fame has hit back at evil trolls who say she is “mistreating” her pets.

Amelia Barrable is the proud owner of 11-year-old West Highland Terrier, Louby, and two-year-old Working Cocker Spaniel, Orbie.

The doggy duo have enjoyed an impressive career, having appeared in musicals, adverts and TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Britain’s Got Talent.

And they have plenty of loyal, dedicated fans with over 400,000 followers combined across TikTok and Instagram (@louby.love / @orbie_only).

However, the fame has come with backlash as Amelia says she regularly receives hateful comments from people online.

“I receive negative comments often, however I tend to simply block and delete because I don’t want to give them the attention they want,” the freelancer and content creator from Northamptonshire told NeedToKnow.Online.

“I’ve had times when people would tell me I’m ‘mistreating' Louby by making her do tricks.

“A lot of people like to make assumptions.

"People don't understand that training is actually fun for the dogs, as it keeps them mentally stimulated.

"If my dogs didn't want to do something, they won't.

”I never force them to do something they don't want to do."

Being a ‘pup-fluencer’ has seen the pets make £7,000 over the years including treats, toys and puppy products.

The dogs have also met and worked with celebrities such as Ant and Dec, Joe Sugg and Mark Wright.

Amelia adopted Louby in 2012 when she was just 13 years old, working with the pup day and night to teach her tricks.

Two years ago, the pair welcomed Orbie, who is just as talented but required “a lot of patience and treats” as a puppy.

Amelia said: “When I got Louby, she was a year old and already knew the basic commands like sit and lie down.

‘From there, I began teaching her fun tricks like spin, roll over, high five and speak.

“When I realised how fun it was for the both of us, I moved on to more advanced tricks like cop cop (her feet on my feet), arm weave, backstall and eventually a handstand, which she went viral for a few years ago.

“I use positive reinforcement, which means I use rewards to train them - such as toys or treats.

“I get to work with my dogs and celebrities and be able to call that my job – it’s a dream come true!”

In order to keep their skills in tip top shape, the pooches train every day for up to 30 minutes, but Amelia says this all depends on how much energy they have.

While she doesn't have any plans on adding to her brood anytime soon, she hopes to do so in the future – if she's given the go ahead from her dad.

Amelia also believes in spoiling her pooches rotten, splashing out over £200 a month on treats, toys and food.

She said: "I spoil the dogs all the time too. Louby loves her food and Orbie loves his toys.

"We always buy them new toys, as they're always getting destroyed and she'll always beg for food because she knows she can get away with it – especially with such a cute face."

Despite some hateful comments online, Amelia is grateful for how the online dog community has welcomed her.

She said: “I feel thankful for the response I’ve gotten since starting social media,’ she said.

“The dog community on Instagram is wonderful and we all love to support each other and speak to each other about our dogs.

“It’s given me the confidence to meet new people and make new friends.”
