Police have rescued a trapped woman who was locked inside the kitchen by her jealous lesbian girlfriend - who then went on holiday.

Officers found Yui, 31, calling for help from behind the metal window grilles of her home in Buriram, Thailand on March 20.

The entrance was secured with a chain and padlock while multiple locks on the front steel gate also barred entry.

Armed police prepared to hacksaw through the metal bars before smashing a bedroom window and helping Yui climb down to safety at around 5 PM.

Traumatised Yui told officers that her 'tomboy' lover - local slang for a butch woman - had fought with her earlier in the morning.

She said: 'I was scared because she hit me. She pushed me. I didn't want to fight back. She is stronger than me, she's a tomboy.'

In a fit of jealousy, the girlfriend then allegedly locked her inside the house, telling her she was going to Udon Thani province for four days. She had left fresh food behind for Yui before embarking on her holiday.

After the argument, Yui pleaded with a neighbour for help as she did not want to stay locked up in the building.

As night fell, the police prepared bolt cutters to bust the locks open, but Yui suddenly stopped them and said she would climb down from the second-storey balcony instead.

Yui then clambered down the ledge assisted by the cops and was safely rescued.

She claimed her lover had previously detained her four to five times before. She added she she did not have a key to open the locks to escape.

Yui declined to press charges against her girlfriend. She was taken to the Muang police station, where she was comforted by a relative.

Lieutenant Colonel Yuttana Traithip said: 'The issue started from an emotional problem between the girlfriends. The woman who was locked in the house does not want to co-operate to prosecute the girlfiend.

'We have told her to stay with family instead while they calm down and to call the police if the are any more problems.'
