Fighting has broken out in Sudan after weeks of tension between the army and the powerful paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Both groups were allies and together they seized power in a 2021 coup. However, tensions increased over the proposed integration of the RSF into the military, and the situation has now escalated into violent conflict.

The protagonists in the outbreak of violence are army General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, the RSF leader General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti. The rival groups are now fighting to take control of key areas in the country, such as the state TV and the presidential palace.

The situation in East Khartoum, where shots are being fired in the air, is just one example of the violence that has erupted according to a video footage captured by @WaleedIAdam1 on 17th April, 2023.

The situation in Sudan is causing concern among international observers, who fear that the country could slide back into chaos and conflict.
