STORYLINE:

Millions of Turks are expected to hit the roads to visit relatives or for a brief holiday during the upcoming Muslim festival Eid al-Adha, the country's Bus Drivers' Federation said Thursday.

Mustafa Yildirim, chairman of the federation, told state-run Anadolu news agency that the bus tickets on domestic lines were sold out and additional services are being planned.

"Bus trips have increased by 20 percent with the additional services," he said, referring to the passenger transport for the Eid al-Adha.

According to the federation, 8,500 buses from 350 companies are expected to carry an average of 800,000 passengers daily during the holiday, significantly up from last year's 600,000 passengers.

Eid al-Adha, also known as Feast of Sacrifice, will start on June 28 this year. The Eid al-Adha holiday has been extended to nine days this year instead of the traditional four days in Türkiye, which is expected to give a boost to domestic tourism.
