A pair of frightened cats stood in the corner as a huge rat crawled on a box in front of them.

The two felines - a long-haired orange Persian and a grey British short hair - were playing in the living room when the fearless creature appeared in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on May 4.

Footage shows the moggies staring in disbelief and hiding behind a shopping bag as the rodent sniffed around.

The creatures remained motionless at a standstill while the pest looked calm, balancing on the edge of the bottled water box.

Pet owner Desinta Puspita said: ‘My cats are pretty useless and dumb when it comes to scaring away rats. They were so afraid of the tiny pest.'

Desinta added that the amusing pet cats waited until the rat left alone.

She said: ‘They stayed on that spot until the intruder rat scurried away. It was hilarious.'
