On July 3rd, 2023, a massive fire broke out at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada, engulfing the Charleston Residence and leaving hundreds of people displaced. The three-storey log building, which serves as accommodation for numerous staff members throughout the year, succumbed to the flames, causing widespread devastation. Prompt responses from the local police, fire departments, and EMS were witnessed, and buses were used to evacuate people from the scene to a muster point at the Lake Louise ski hill, as reported by the RCMP. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and authorities have one person in custody in connection with the incident.

According to estimates, the Charleston Residence was housing between 150 and 200 individuals at the time of the fire, with its capacity expanding to as many as 400 during the bustling winter season. While there were no reported fatalities, one person was taken to the hospital for assessment and treatment. The patient was reported to be in serious but stable condition, according to Alberta Health Services.
