A 26-second video from Manipur, India that has since gone viral, showing a mob of men sexually assaulting two women from the ethnic Kuki-Zo tribe, has set off a wave of national indignation. The victims, aged 21 and 42, were paraded naked and attacked, with one reported to have been gang raped, according to a first information report filed by the survivors.

The incident occurred on May 4, amid violent ethnic strife between the predominantly Hindu Meitei and Christian Kuki-Zo tribes. The Bharatiya Janata Party, a Hindu nationalist party, governs the remote northeastern state where the incident took place.

"This is a condemnable act of violence against women," said a protestor during a silent rally in Prayagraj, held by the Christian community to denounce the assault on Wednesday (July 26).

The march weaved through the city, culminating in a two-minute silence in honor of the victims.

The video has exposed deeply-rooted tensions and raised serious concerns about ethnic and gender violence in India. Authorities have yet to comment on the disturbing incident.
