King Abdullah II of Jordan on Tuesday stressed the importance of the international community's support in protecting the Palestinians, reiterating Jordan's unwavering position towards the Palestinian issue.
The king made the remarks at a meeting in Amman with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, where he said Jordan will continue to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite Custodianship, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.
Emphasizing Jordan's full support for the Palestinians to attain their legitimate rights and the establishment of their sovereign and viable state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, he stressed keenness to maintain Arab coordination to support the Palestinians and their just cause, according to the statement.
The Jordanian leader called for intensifying efforts to find a political horizon that paves the way to relaunching serious and effective negotiations to resolve the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and urged ending all illegal unilateral Israeli measures.
For his part, Abbas lauded Jordan's unwavering positions and steadfast support for the Palestinians and their cause internationally.
