The Hawaii Army National Guard deployed two CH-47 Chinook helicopters to dump water on wildfires ripping through Maui island.

The firefighting aircraft have doused more than 100,000 gallons over the fires over 58 trips on August 9, the National Guard said.

At least 53 people have died in Maui as of Thursday. Officials have warned that the death toll is likely to increase as multiple fires continue to ravage the island.
