An offshore wind turbine has caught fire sending smoke that can be seen over ten miles away.

Footage from North Denes Beach in Lowestoft, Suffolk shows the offshore turbine billowing.

Filmer Liam Killett, 29, said he was "surprised and shocked" when he saw this on his daily walk on his lunch hour."

He said: "I had just started my lunchtime walk, I saw that and took a shot straight away."

"[I was]surprised there were no service boats but assumed they were on the way due to seeing such a busy service area around those recently. "

"[In the] last few weeks multiple ships have been out there."

"I saw the fire was on the way down, not up, so didn't report it. "

"By the time I'd finished my walking route I came round for a last look and it had stopped."

"I could see a black line through a bunch of white ones, so got the camera out, zoomed in and saw that charred one!"

"I honestly felt quite surprised how by the time I'd done a 40 min walk to find no ships attending it but assumed it's under control remotely."

"I was concerned big time, then realised they're all isolated and there is a load of sea between them so realised it wouldn't spread."

The company that owns the turbines, RWE, has confirmed that nobody has been injured.

The HM Coast Guard has got the situation under control and is monitoring the situation.

The footage was captured on August 15.
