A group of heroic fishermen managed to rescue five beached beluga whales in Tigilsky, Russia's Kamchatka Krai.

Minister of Natural Resources for the region, Alexei Kumarkov, confirmed the heartening rescue operation that saw local fishermen rally together to save the marine giants.

The Sokol family artel members, namely Andrei Korolev, Vladimir Kochelaevsky, Sergey Umkev, and Ashot Ustyan, discovered four mature beluga whales and a youthful cub stranded on the shores of the Sea of Okhotsk.

Their diligent efforts to hydrate the creatures persisted for hours until the tide returned, and the whales were free to swim back into the sea.
