STORYLINE:

Marcelo Gomes, a 31-year-old Brazilian, was dispatched to Xiamen in 2017 by his company, a leading Brazilian LED distributor.

Gomes, who is responsible for R&D and quality control in the company, said suppliers in Xiamen offer very competitive products which are popular among Brazilian consumers.

"Before I came to China, I was very curious about China's history and culture. And also at that time, I have seen the Olympic Games of 2008. And that was very impressive and that's why I chose to come to China. And Xiamen, because it is a strategic place for our company that works in Brazil. I like Xiamen a lot. The city is very beautiful, the people are nice."

As Brazil is one of the five emerging economies within the BRICS, Gomes hopes that the group could further enhance collaboration among its members.

"For me, the BRICS means emerging countries that are looking for cooperation and that want to be partners for growing together. And the keyword for me is cooperation. I think the word cooperation just like our business, we make the designs in Brazil and have cooperation with China. So we have the two countries' cooperation where we design and produce in China and sell for the world. I think that the BRICS countries can even have better cooperation."

Gomes said that the Chinese market is huge and its economy is still growing. He is optimistic about the trade between China and Brazil.

"I think China's economy is very impressive and also very dynamic. I am confident about China's economy. I plan to stay here still for a long time and do business with Brazil in China."
