Preparations for the G20 Summit in New Delhi, to be held between September 9 and 10, are in full swing. The Delhi government, along with the Centre, has been working on various projects to beautify the national capital ahead of the global meeting. Life-size cutouts of langurs have sprung up in several parts of New Delhi over the last few days as officials look to prevent the smaller rhesus monkeys from playing spoilsport during the G20 summit that will take place next week.

Rhesus monkeys are a menace in many areas in the national capital, running across busy roads without warning putting both themselves and motorists at risk and often attacking unsuspecting pedestrians or residents. To scare these monkeys Government has installed large cutouts of langurs at various G20 venues as well as on the roads of Delhi.

The idea behind installing the cutouts is to scare away monkeys which might end up frequenting the spots that would be visited by foreign dignitaries for the G20 Summit. The cutouts are so lifelike that people actually could end up mistaking them for actual langurs. Langurs are used to scare away monkeys and have been previously engaged in Delhi and other cities, which have witnessed monkey menace. This is not the first time New Delhi has turned to langurs to resolve its monkey problem during a major international event.
