The Africa Climate Summit opened in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Monday.

Former UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon attended the three-day summit, calling for increased funding.

"Climate issues cannot be handled by only one country or one organization, including the United Nations. All should put their hands together. That is why all African leaders are coming to Nairobi to make sure that the necessary actions are being made to help people overcome this climate crisis. We have no time to lose. We have only one planet Earth. At least I am urging that climate support for adaptation activities, the current level of support should be increased by tenfold, ten times. Otherwise, we will never be able to address the climate crisis in Africa. This is the main purpose that the African leaders are gathering today. At least I am urging that the international community should increase (fund) tenfold. Currently, we are talking about 53 billion dollars a year, but at minimum, there should be (one) hundred and six billion dollars. There should be more and more."
