STORYLINE:

The 77th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday concluded with the outgoing president calling for "cooperation on a global scale."
   
During the 100th plenary session of the 77th UNGA, which marked the culmination of the session, Csaba Korosi, a senior diplomat from Hungary and president of the 77th UNGA, emphasized that "the multilateral system demands cooperation on a global scale -- between countries and regions but also across disciplines and fields."

"The multilateral system demands cooperation on a global scale -- between countries and regions but also across disciplines and fields. From addressing climate change and cyber-crime to respecting human rights online and the use of artificial intelligence, we must unite around a holistic approach."
   
Korosi underscored that "multilateralism is our only option to tackle the many crises of the world."

"We must urgently reform the UN in ways that correspond with the challenges of our day. Times are evolving, and this organization must evolve with them. We must reform how the General Assembly functions. The same is true for the Security Council."

Dennis Francis, permanent representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the United Nations, and president-elect of the forthcoming 78th UNGA, took the oath of office.
   
The 77th UNGA officially concluded after Francis took the gavel from Korosi.
   
After the conclusion of the closing plenary meeting of the 77th session, Korosi and Francis made their way to the second floor of the Conference Building, where the "Changing of Flags" ceremony took place.
   
During this ceremony, Hungary's national flag was replaced by the flag of Trinidad and Tobago, symbolizing the transition of leadership between the two sessions.
