STORYLINE:

Turkish security forces have nabbed five "terrorists" who were plotting a bomb attack in the southeastern Diyarbakir province, a cabinet minister said on Friday.

"The terrorists, who acted as couriers for the separatist organization, were preparing a bomb attack," Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in a statement, referring to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has rebelled against the Turkish government for more than three decades.

Türkiye has "neutralized" more than 1,180 terrorists of PKK or its Syrian wing, the Kurdish People's Protection Units, since the beginning of this year, including those hiding out across the border in Iraq and northern Syria, the country's Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

Turkish authorities often use the term "neutralized" in their statements to imply the "terrorists" in question surrendered or were killed or captured.
