STORYLINE:

The Chinese embassy on Tuesday hosted a reception in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, to mark the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), which falls on Oct. 1.

Malawian Minister of Information and Digitalization Moses Kunkuyu, who represented President Lazarus Chakwera, hailed the Chinese government for the support it renders to Malawi, including high-level engagements and visits between the two countries.

"We are praying for the continuation of this relationship. As I did say, it is a mutually beneficial relationship. We are looking into the areas of agriculture where the Chinese government is coming in to support the Mega Farms project. They are very interested in areas of agriculture and the mechanisation of the same. We are looking at tapping from there."

Wang Hao, the Chinese charge d'affaires to Malawi, said that China will strive for new progress in the two countries' relations.

"On the new starting point, China is willing to share its development experience and make efforts to carry out strategic alignment under the framework of the BRI, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative with the Malawi Vision 2063. We shall endeavor to upgrade bilateral relations and practical cooperation to a new level and deliver more benefits to our two peoples."
