A female Chinese tourist was among the victims of a mass shooting in a Thai shopping mall on Tuesday 3 October.

Jinnan Zhao, 34, from Beijing, China, was walking through the Siam Paragon building in Bangkok when the gunman opened fire.

Fourteen-year-old Phasid Trutassanawin has been detained by police, accused of the shooting, which was reportedly carried out with a Glock 19 handgun shortly after 4pm local time.

Paramedics carried away the body of Jinnan in an ambulance. A post mortem examination will now be carried out alongside two other victims.

Police said that at least three people had died and four others were injured.

Security guards were seen directing panic-stricken locals and tourists at the upmarket shopping mall from the exit through the car park. Other shoppers were stuck inside the building - hiding inside shops with their shutters pulled down.

It comes almost a year to the day when gunman Panya Khamrab, 34, killed 36 people and injured 10 others in a rampage at a nursery in Nong Bua Lamphu province in the north of the country on October 6, 2022. He later turned a gun on himself during the spree.
