Wildfire smoke seen from plane flying over Chile
Wildfire smoke was seen by passengers onboard a plane flying over Chile.
Footage shows a smokescreen drifting over the mountains as the aircraft passed near Punta Arenas on January 14.
Grey and white smoke spread across forests, while burning patches remained visible. Parts of the Andean foothills, lakes, and valleys were also obscured by the smoke.
Traveller Carla Montserrat said: 'My heart does not like this. I saw fire from Argentina while flying through Chile to Punta Arenas. At first, I thought it was fog over Lake Todos los Santos, but it was smoke.'
Severe wildfires have affected Argentina this summer, fueled by drought, high temperatures, strong winds, and dry vegetation.
