The number of displaced people has increased significantly in the Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours, the United Nations humanitarian agencies operating in that territory reported this Tuesday and also sounded the alarm about the rapid worsening of events.

The humanitarian coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Lynn Hastings, explained that at least 200,000 of Gaza's 2.2 million residents have been displaced "after fleeing for fear of losing their lives or because their homes were destroyed by airstrikes." .

"Most of them are taking refuge in UNRWA schools, of which at least two have already been damaged by shelling in the area," Hastings added, noting that the number of people affected by hostilities can only increase.

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the number of displaced people is the highest since the 50-day escalation of hostilities in 2014, the deadliest recorded in Gaza since 1967.
