China: Establishing commemoration day demonstrates Taiwan an inalienable part of China
The establishment of October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration fully demonstrates that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, said participants in the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration in Beijing. The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) designated Oct. 25 as the official commemorative day at its 18th session on Friday, and stipulated that the nation shall hold commemorative activities in various forms. On Saturday, representatives from all walks of life, including compatriots from the Taiwan region, commemorated the 80th anniversary at a grand meeting in Beijing, remembering history of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and honoring the martyrs who fought against Japanese aggression. The Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council hosted a reception to mark the newly established commemorative day also on Saturday, emphasizing that establishing this national commemoration day on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration fully reflects the will of the people and the resolve of the nation. "The establishment of this commemorative day aims to resolutely thwart the attempt to pursue Taiwan secession and external interference. It powerfully demonstrates that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and China's sovereignty over Taiwan has irrefutable historical and legal foundations. It sends a clear message of our times -- the attempt to seek Taiwan secession is doomed to fail, external interference will not succeed, and China must and will be reunified," said Song Tao, head of both the CPC Central Committee's Taiwan Work Office and the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, at the reception. The participants in the events described the establishment of the commemorative day as timely and significant. "This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration. Establishing the commemorative day at this moment serves not only as a tribute to the past but also as a declaration to the world that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," said Justin Yifu Lin, vice chairman of China Overseas Friendship Association. For some time, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities and Taiwan secessionists have colluded with external forces, plotting secessionist provocations and even trumpeting the notion that Taiwan's status is undetermined, in a bid to deny the history of Taiwan's restoration and challenge the post-war international order. The Taiwan-based China Times newspaper commented that the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration follows the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It is a justified fact. "The DPP authorities look like Chinese, yet why does your inner world cling so nostalgically to the Japanese imperialist rule? Our language, lifestyle, bloodline, and culture all fully prove we are Chinese. What does your denial mean? So, recent polls show Lai Ching-te's approval ratings keep falling. What does that signify? People in Taiwan oppose the DPP authorities' relentless push for 'de-sinicization' and their Taiwan secession agenda, which stops at nothing," said Wang Feng, chairman of China Times. Undeterred by the DPP authorities' intimidation and suppression, compatriots from Taiwan actively participated in the commemorative events, calling for the establishment of a right perception of history and contributing to cross-Strait peace and prosperity. "In the face of historical justice, we must uphold our personal convictions. We will not be deterred from participating in this commemorative event by the DPP's threats. I believe that victory was hard-won. Especially when our entire nation stands closest to its great rejuvenation now, compatriots on both sides of the Strait should join hands and strive together to achieve great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," said Lee Cheng-hung, president of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland.
