STORYLINE:

China will provide anti-dengue aid to Bangladesh, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen announced Wednesday while addressing the donation ceremony of China-aided dengue kits to a major hospital in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka.

A total of 1,109 people have died of dengue fever, out of 228,779 cases reported across Bangladesh so far this year, Bangladeshi health department figures showed.

Yao expressed his sympathy for those who died of the disease and his condolences to their family members.

"It is my privilege and honor (that) I have chances to present the first batch of Chinese government's support in fighting against dengue fever for Bangladesh. I know now it is a difficult time for Bangladeshi people since you have the severest dengue epidemic in the history of Bangladesh. So far more than 1,000 people have lost their lives due to this pandemic. So our hearts are together."

Bangladeshi State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md. Enamur Rahman, who was present at the ceremony, said China is a development partner and longtime friend of Bangladesh.

"China is a big development partner and good friend for long days. For the continuation of their development partner activities, they came forward with humanitarian support that is today they handed over dengue kits for the diagnosis of dengue fever.
