Bletchley Park AI Safety Summit: Activists call for a global pause on advanced AI systems
Pause AI activists staged a demonstration as experts and global leaders attended the world's first AI Safety Summit in Bletchley Park on November 1st.
The event was attended by Elon Musk, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, US Vice President Kamala Harris and the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Pause AI call for a curb on the development of general artificial intelligence systems, which they argue can lead to a variety of societal harms including the erosion of democracy, and the loss of jobs.
In a worse case scenario, superintelligent AI systems may lead to human extinction, which the activists say is a risk that cannot be ignored.
