A lost golden retriever's epic five-kilometre trek home culminated in a tearful reunion in southwest China.

CCTV footage filmed in Guiyang City in Guizhou Province on October 28, shows the golden retriever named Dundun emitting soulful howls by the roadside.

Dundun, who inadvertently escaped during a routine walk, remarkably navigated a five-kilometre journey back to its former residence. However, upon arrival, Dundun found the old homestead deserted and released heartbreaking howls.

Caught on surveillance camera, the owner spotted their lost dog and immediately rushed to the old address to reclaim their beloved pet.

The owner, feeling both moved and somewhat guilty, vowed never to lose sight of Dundun again, promising a future where the clever dog's adventures are safely limited to their shared home.

A day earlier, while its owner was taking it for a walk, the dog, named Dundun, managed to break free from the leash, resulting in it getting separated from the owner.

Surprisingly, it independently traveled five kilometers back to their old home. Finding no one there, the dog sat at the roadside and let out a heart-rending howl.

Through the surveillance in front of their old house, the owner was astonished to find the lost dog and immediately rushed to bring the dog back to their home. Both touched and helpless, the owner stated that he would keep a closer eye on the smart dog in the future.
