STORYLINE:
At the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, Lao enterprise SAN WAN LAO's booth attracted dozens of potential customers in a single day.
This is the third time that this enterprise has come to the expo to display Laos' ancient tree tea.
Since last year, these tea products have arrived in Shanghai more quickly, via the China-Laos Railway.
The railway was launched in late 2021. Now for the Lao company, the transport time for their products from Laos to Shanghai has been reduced from one week to three days, and the cost has also been halved.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): THIENG SOMSAT, Lao exhibitor
"We hope for meeting more people in China who appreciate Lao products and would like to discuss cooperation with us. We are also seeking agents in China to facilitate Chinese investment in Laos. We are willing to engage in cooperation and discussions."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): ZHOU ZHENGYU, Shanghai Representative Office of Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry
"Arriving at the CIIE via the China-Laos Railway has become a standard practice for Laotian exhibitors. This year, Laos is showcasing an array of consumer goods such as handicrafts, fragrant rice, coffee, dried fruits, and more. After the conclusion of the sixth CIIE, these products will be shown at Laos' inaugural economic and trade cooperation exhibition hall in Yangpu (in Shanghai). This will allow the products to cater to the strong demand in the Yangtze River Delta region, ensuring continuous spill-over effects from the CIIE throughout the year."
