Bluefin tuna farming plays an important role in Malta's aquaculture sector.
Traditionally, Maltese bluefin tuna has been primarily exported to Japan and South Korea. However, a promising market is on the horizon: the imminent export of Maltese bluefin tuna to China.
Maltese bluefin tuna was exhibited at the recently concluded 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. Participants showed keen interest and enthusiasm for Maltese bluefin tuna, hinting at a promising future in the Chinese market.
The Malta-China agreement on exporting bluefin tuna was recently signed in Beijing, which opens new opportunities for Maltese tuna producers to enter the Chinese market.
