This footage was filmed and produced 27 November 2023.

Palo Alto Animal Control reported a surge in avian incidents, not of the turkey variety, as officers responded to calls involving an injured Great Egret in Los Altos and an injured Blue Heron in the Pearson-Arastradero preserve in Palo Alto.

The Great Egret, grounded and unable to fly, was caught on residents' doorbell cameras playing an unexpected game of hide-and-seek before Officer Corrollo successfully captured it. Meanwhile, two observant hikers, Cal and Nick, discovered the injured Blue Heron, prompting a call to Officer Macartney for assistance.

Both majestic birds have been safely rescued and transferred to the Peninsula Humane Society's wildlife department for necessary care. Palo Alto Animal Control wishes them a swift and successful recovery.
