A barista has shared their hilarious blunder after accidentally charging a customer over £1,000 for coffee in a billing muck up.

Alexander Saint Von, 23, was only meant to charge for an espresso and cappuccino, but their customer got a lot more than they bargained for when it came to coughing up the cash.

Instead of putting the bill through as $15.34 (£12.66), they missed the decimal point and slapped the unsuspecting customers with a $1,534 (£1,265) receipt.

Alexander shared the funny mishap on TikTok, where the video went viral with over 34,000 views.

“My immediate response was being mortified,” Alexander, a model and actor based in New York, Needtoknow.co.uk.

Luckily, the customer laughed it off – and received their coffee free of charge to make up for the blunder.

Alexander added: “I explained to the customer what happened and they were very understanding.

“I got the manager to come in and void the charge.

“The customer got all of their money back and the coffee was on us.

“Thankfully, I didn’t get any consequences at work – my manager was very understanding that we all make mistakes and it’s a very easy one to make.”

TikTok users have lapped up the video, with people offering various messages of sympathy and light-hearted humour – but not everyone has been quite so understanding and kind.

Alexander said: “The response online has been a lot of hate, not gonna lie.

“A lot of people have been leaving comments hoping that I get fired or that I should be punished severely.”

Eva commented: “LOL. Fired. Or should be.”

Another joked: “Thief”

Sophie added: “How did their card even go through?”

Es commented: “Babe tell me this was voided cause.”

Another commented: “That looks so intentional too cause it’s on the gratitude like you tipped yourself that lmao I would have been like???” [sic]

Another user joked: “I don’t have to worry about this because my card would just decline.”

Others related to Alexander and commented their mistakes too, to make them feel better.

Karla commented: “I once charge a customer 100 accidentally and they gave me a warning.” [sic]

Someone else added: “My boss got charged 4,030 instead of 40.30 and he didn’t realise for days.”

Another person said: “Something I would do.”
