A shoddily made glass coffee cup suddenly exploded and shattered into shards in a cafe.

The espresso mug had just been cleaned and placed on the counter as a barista was preparing the waiting customer's orders in Nakhon Pathom province, Thailand on May 28.

But the object suddenly shattered while it was only sitting on the platform without being touched - leaving the two employees confused about how it broke.

CCTV footage shows the cup breaking and scattering into sharp pieces. The two workers looked at each other as they were baffled at how it could break easily.

The shop's owner Sahapap said: ‘I think the quality of the glass was not that good. Usually, after being used, the glass would be cleaned right away.'

The workers cleaned up the broken glasses after the incident and no one was hurt in the incident.
