An influencer has revealed how she discovered £12,000 worth of flooring underneath her rotting red carpet while renovating her first home.

After moving into her “fixer upper”, Anya Clements, 22, and her partner Calum Jones, 28, from Cardiff began making changes throughout her home while trying to stay on a budget.

That’s when she hit the DIY renovation jackpot.

After ripping up her “ugly red carpet”, the 22-year-old was shocked to find luxury oak parquet flooring on the whole downstairs level of her house.

She shared the shocking discovery on TikTok (@anya .c) with her 41,500 followers, and users lapped it up, with the video racking up over 127,000 views.

Oak parquet flooring can typically cost between £20- £80 per sq.

“I was over the moon!,” she told N

“We saved lots of time and money by not getting new flooring and it was the floor we were going to get there anyways!”

At first, unsure of the floor’s true value, Anya decided to get a second opinion and FaceTimed her parents to confirm the luxury find.

Anya said: “I felt speechless! I didn’t realise flooring could cost so much!

“The floor was beautiful and similar to what we were going to put there so we fell in love with it.

“We have started to sand it by hand and varnish it ourselves.

“We are doing the whole renovation ourselves.

“Hand-sanding takes a lot of time and effort but we are aiming to do as much as the renovation ourselves to keep the cost down.

“The £12,000 flooring hasn’t cost us a penny!”

Using her TikTok account to document her renovation journey after purchasing her first home in August 2023, users joined Anya in surprise at her discovery.

Karen said: “Do you want to send some of that luck my way. What an amazing find.”

Another user commented: “Jackpot!!”

Koko said: “Omg Pinterest board heaven you lucky thing!” [sic]

Antonia added: “You are truly the luckiest! That floor is going to be incredible once you’ve restored it.”

Another used commented: “Gorgeous”

Another user added: “This is mental, we just had concrete under our carpets. Me, jealous, YES!!!!!!!” [sic]

Merrington commented: “I detest carpet so girl uncover the hard floor.”

Anya added: “TikTok has been going crazy on the video I posted!

“Many people commented to say they found mould and asbestos and how lucky we were to find the floor in good condition.”
