This footage was filmed and produced 4 October 2023.

The first Koala offspring at Zoo Dresden marks a significant success in breeding efforts. Eerin, the Koala female, has been carrying the pouch-bound joey since its estimated birth in March 2023. Recent observations reveal visible movements and glimpses of the joey, which made its debut by peeking out from the pouch on October 3rd. While the gender remains unknown, the young Koala is expected to leave the pouch permanently around the age of 7 to 9 months.

Despite challenges in monitoring the birth, the zoo celebrates the joey's development, emphasizing the rarity of such moments. The successful rearing of Dresden Koalas Eerin and Mullaya's offspring contributes to the preservation and growth of the European Koala population, identified as facing difficulties in reproduction. As the joey continues to thrive, its eventual emergence from the pouch promises more enchanting sightings for visitors in the coming weeks.
