STORYLINE:
A Palestinian man has condemned the "double standards" of the U.S. when coming to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict this year.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): ABDUL AZIZ AL-QADI, Palestinian in Ramallah
"The conflict (in Gaza this year) is a real war, a real war. Some countries, especially the United States, adopt double standards. During the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the United States said that Russia had invaded and occupied Ukrainian territory. But this time, when so many children in Gaza were killed in the conflict, the United States repeatedly emphasized that Israel has the right to self-defense."
Al-Qadi was displaced from his hometown Beit Nuba back in 1967.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): ABDUL AZIZ AL-QADI, Palestinian in Ramallah
"One night after the war broke out in 1967, we received an order at midnight to evacuate immediately. Then on the third day, I heard that three villages including my hometown, Beit Nuba, had been destroyed."
Despite the escalating conflict, Al-Qadi never gave up on the hope of peace.
SOUNDBITE 3 (Arabic): ABDUL AZIZ AL-QADI, Palestinian in Ramallah
"We had previously retained the hope of returning home, and after this conflict, we hoped it would come true, and we could return to our hometown. If (Israel) is willing to live in peace, we Palestinians are ready for peace. We hope that the real 'Palestinian state' can be realized in the future, and I will take my children back to my original homeland. There can also be peace throughout the region. We never felt despair."
