A group of train passengers were caught on video warning themselves over a small bonfire they allegedly lit onboard.

The incident was said to have taken place on the Sangam Express, going from Meerut to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, India, on January 17.

Protestors from the Bharatiya Kisan (farmers') Union were reportedly on their way to a rally when they started a fire aboard the air-conditioned train.

Phone footage shows a group of men standing around the fire in the moving train, seemingly not caring they might suffocate from the smoke or burn down the entire wagon.

However, other passengers panicked and reported the incident to the railway control room.

Railway officials later raided the train with heavy police force, local media reported.

They searched through the train and questioned passengers, but could not find the culprits who allegedly started the fire.

Chaudhary Gaurav Tikait, President of Youth Brigade, who reportedly led the 500 farmers on a rally and rode along on the train, was also questioned, reports said.

He denied being involved in the incident.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused and are currently investigating the matter.
