Dolphins Rescued from Peril in Penfoulic Cove, France
This footage was filmed and produced 18 February 2024.
Three dolphins were in a scare on Sunday February 18th when they found themselves in difficulty in the Penfoulic cove and had to be rescued by the Fouesnant firefighters.
The Finisterre Departmental Fire and Rescue Service reported that the cetaceans were unable to return to the sea on their own, prompting the arrival of eleven firefighters from Fouesnant and Concarneau to assist. After four hours of intervention, the dolphins were successfully moved away from the shore just in time as the tide was falling.
While the animals were saved from the immediate danger, concerns remain about their well-being due to the stress they may have experienced during the rescue operation. Dolphins are known to be sensitive to stress, with many found dead on the coasts succumbing to heart attacks caused by panic.
