STORYLINE:

In Zimbabwe, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been providing hope for patients who are seeking relief from various ailments.

Every working day, a number of patients would come to the Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare for acupuncture treatment.

SOUNDBITE 1 (ENGLISH): MARTHA TSIGA, Patient
"Once those needles were just inserted, I just relaxed and I slept, just for those 10 to 15 minutes, and my body was just responding positively. So it's like magical, but very very important and very very good. It doesn't alter the natural mechanisms of the body, but it heals perfectly."

SOUNDBITE 2 (ENGLISH) MARTHA TSIGA, Patient
"I am now able to walk. I wasn't even able to walk for about a kilometer or so, I would just sit down and start crying, but right now I can drive, I can walk, I can do even my daily chores, I am now able to go to work because of this facility."

Acupuncture is a component of TCM, an ancient medical system that has been used for over 2,000 years in China to diagnose, treat, and prevent illnesses.

It also uses techniques that include moxibustion, cupping, herbal medicines, and other mind-body practices.

SOUNDBITE 3 (ENGLISH): CHARLOTTE MUZIRI, Volunteer at TCM clinic
"From the time that I have been here, I have been witnessing miracles, to say, because I have seen many patients that have been healed. It's really working wonders for the people of Zimbabwe."

SOUNDBITE 4 (ENGLISH): WANG ZHIMING, TCM doctor
"We came here to bring the traditional Chinese medicine techniques and we also want to train a group of local doctors who can independently do the acupuncture and moxibustion and these Chinese techniques for the local people. And we want to,  through this way, benefit more Zimbabwean people."

Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Harare.
